Claude Monet
Claude Monet was a leading figure in French Impressionism. Born in Paris and raised in Le Havre, he developed a lasting interest in painting outdoors. His landscapes explore how light, weather and the time of day transform familiar places. Working in series, he returned to subjects including haystacks, poplars and Rouen Cathedral. His garden at Giverny became the setting for the water-lily paintings that occupied much of his later career.
